Welcome to the website of Angus Konstam, the
acclaimed historian, and one of the world's leading authorities
on piracy, past and present.
Angus is the author of over sixty books,
all of which are listed here. His most recent books are
highlighted on the right, including There was a Soldier
(selected as Waterstone's Scottish Book of the Month for
June 2009), the critically acclaimed Sovereigns of the Sea,
Piracy: The Complete History, and Blackbeard, his well-received
biography of the notorious pirate.
His latest book, The World Atlas of Pirates
is due out in the United States this summer. Angus also
has a long-standing relationship with Osprey Publishing,
and has written more than 30 military and naval history
titles for them.
A former naval officer, underwater archaeologist
and museum curator, Angus has worked on both sides of the
Atlantic, but he now lives in Edinburgh, where he writes
full-time. He also makes frequent television appearances
as a piracy expert or historical "talking head"
in both America and Britain, and he also appears regularly
at book festivals and other literary events.
He is currently working on a new project
- an expose of modern piracy - a book that needs almost
daily revision, in order to keep up with the latest developments!
